Frequently Asked Questions:

How do you select candidates?

Tiyara works in close partnership with well-established local organizations in India, Nepal, and Thailand. Together, we agree on the criteria and requirements for all candidates to ensure fairness and accountability.

Our partners visit each candidate’s home to verify their personal and financial circumstances, check references, and confirm authenticity. They also provide details about the institution where the candidate has been accepted, the program they will pursue, and the estimated educational costs.

This process reflects Tiyara’s ongoing commitment to excellence, transparency, and stewardship in higher education support.

What financial accountability mechanisms do you have in place?

All partners submit quarterly financial statements for each scholar’s education and annual audited reports certified by independent accounting firms.

Tiyara’s model is based on scholarships rather than individual sponsorships. All donations go into a shared scholarship fund, which is distributed fairly to qualified students. Donors receive monthly updates and may have opportunities to engage with scholar groups and learn about their progress.

Are individual donors connected to individual students?

The Tiyara model of support is built on scholarships rather than individual sponsorships. All individual donations go into the Tiyara scholarship fund, which is used to support qualified students based on established criteria.

Donors receive monthly updates from Tiyara and are offered opportunities to engage with groups of candidates and learn more about the progress their contributions make possible.

How much of the funds raised go directly to the scholarship?

Tiyara strives to keep operational and fundraising costs between ten and fifteen percent, allowing up to ninety percent of donations to go directly toward students’ education.

By raising funds separately for scholarships and operations, Tiyara has, in its first two years, been able to allocate more than one hundred percent of scholarship-designated funds directly to beneficiaries. This reflects our dedication to maximizing donor impact and ensuring that every contribution makes a difference.

What does Tiyara’s mentorship program include?

Tiyara supports students beyond financial aid through ongoing mentorship, career guidance, and personal development. Scholars receive confidence-building support, life skills training, and access to professional networks that help them transition successfully from classrooms to careers.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes. Tiyara is a registered nonprofit organization based in the United States. All contributions are fully tax deductible under U.S. law, allowing donors to make a lasting impact while receiving eligible tax benefits.
