Lichungla is the first from her family to go to college and she wants to set an example for her two younger brothers, which she says a Tiyara scholarship has made possible. She comes from the marginalized Sangtam tribe in Nagaland, India, and is pursuing her education out of state in Pune, Maharashtra. Her father is a farmer, and her mother is a weaver. 

“My biggest dream is to make my parents proud by achieving something they couldn't because of limited opportunities,”  Lichungla says. “My hope is to use my education for a stable career but also to give back to society. I want to apply my skills in healthcare to improve patient outcomes, spread awareness, and inspire others in my community to value education.”
