A first-generation college graduate, Amei now teaches Political Science to high schoolers in Arunachal Pradesh, India. She has also more than doubled her family’s income. Amei is from the Konyak indigenous people groups in Nagaland. She picked up the art of traditional weaving and bead making from her mother. Amei received civil service coaching on a Tiyara scholarship.

Roshni is employed as a primary school teacher. Now married, and the mother of a 2-year-old, Roshni grew up in a humble mud hut on the edge of a forest, close to a tiger reserve in northern India. She belongs to the extremely marginalized Tharu community.

Rachel’s Tiyara scholarship was for a certification towards earning government credentials. Rachel says that that training launched her on her path toward studying law.
Rachel has faced a lot of hardships, hopping from one place to another seeking support from relatives. Her father passed away, and she was abandoned by her biological mother, when she was a child. Rachel is a model of grit and perseverance and a proud Tiyara alum.

After completing her MBA on a Tiyara scholarship, Elvish is now employed as an analyst in a medical insurance company. Her annual wages are over 4X the annual scholarship she received, significantly boosting the finances of her parental family of seven, and increasing it by over two and half times. Elvish belongs to the Rongmei Naga tribal group in India. She was a gold medalist in economics for her undergrad studies.

Born an orphan and raised in an orphanage, Mercy overcame early hardship and has earned a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery with her husband's support, and a Tiyara scholarship, while parenting two young children. Inspired by the kindness she received growing up, Mercy hopes to give back by serving the needy through her nursing career. Her resilience, purpose-driven motivation, and skill set make her an excellent nurse.

Zuali is the first in her family to graduate college and is a Tiyara alumnus in counseling and psychotherapy. She pays it forward by supporting at risk youth in her community.

With a Diploma in Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Tholkappian now makes nine times his annual scholarship, in annual wages. For almost all of his life, his father has been in prison, having been implicated in mob riots. Despite the stigma attached to his circumstances, Tholkappian enjoys the support of good friends, and a mother who has struggled to raise her two sons.

After earning a Bachelor’s in Mechatronics, Ragul now earns over five and a half times his annual scholarship, in annual wages! Ragul’s Father was murdered by Ragul’s uncle over ownership of a well. Ragul’s mother raised her son and daughter on her meager salary working as a tailor. Ragul says he wants to make his mother proud, and give her a break. He continues to set himself higher goals, and strives to achieve them.
