Bachelor’s in Endoscopy Technician
Lichungla is the first from her family to go to college and she wants to set an example for her two younger brothers, which she says a Tiyara scholarship has made possible. She comes from the marginalized Sangtam tribe in Nagaland, India, and is pursuing her education out of state in Pune, Maharashtra. Her father is a farmer, and her mother is a weaver.
“My biggest dream is to make my parents proud by achieving something they couldn't because of limited opportunities,” Lichungla says. “My hope is to use my education for a stable career but also to give back to society. I want to apply my skills in healthcare to improve patient outcomes, spread awareness, and inspire others in my community to value education.”

Birta
MBBS
Birta is the first in her family to attend college and is now in medical school, studying to become a doctor. She comes from the Karbi indigenous community in Assam, India. Despite completing two years of medical school, her family of four struggles to cover expenses. Birta dreams of becoming a skilled doctor who can serve underprivileged communities by providing affordable and free healthcare. A Tiyara scholarship would allow her to continue her studies and uplift her community.

Sangyu
Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering
Sangyu is pursuing a degree in Civil engineering. Her father passed away when she was just 6 years old. Sangyu wants to support her mother and help educate her two sisters.

Arif
Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce
Arif and Hena are siblings whose family are migrant laborers from the state of Bihar.
They are both seeking degrees in Commerce and are first generation university students in search of a brighter, more stable future.

Puja
Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy
Originally from the marginalized Magar community in Nepal, Puja’s dream is to someday open a clinic as a physiotherapist – a dream she can pursue on a Tiyara scholarship. Puja enjoys sketching and cooking, and her favorite food is the Nepali sel roti, a delicacy often made on festive occasions

Ruvelu
Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy
Ruvelu is from a farming family belonging to the Chakhesang indigenous people group in Nagaland in Northeast India. She says she dreams of a stable career to support her family. Ruvelu loves singing.

Molung (on the right)
Bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Science
A high academic achiever, Molung is pursuing a degree in Medical Laboratory Science – a dream he thought would collapse after his father passed – till the Tiyara scholarship came along. Now Molung is determined to excel, and one day support his mother and serve their community. Molung is also the vice-captain of a sports team at his university in Nagaland, India.

Tiakumzuk (Tia)
Bachelor’s in Chemistry
Tia works hard at his Chemistry degree on a Tiyara scholarship, as well as outside to help support himself. He also loves playing the guitar, singing, and sometimes acting. He is determined to work his way to stable employment and to give back to his family and community.

Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy
Meyashan is the first to go to college, from her farming family. She looks forward to succeeding, contributing to society, and to encouraging her two younger siblings to also pursue a college education. She is also excited to travel and experiment with different cuisines.

Wangya (In the back middle)
General Nursing and Midwifery
Wangya is the only daughter in a farming family of 7. She says her family have always supported her aspirations for higher education. She longs to become a caring nurse and midwife, and help alleviate their financial burdens. Wangya says she loves cross-cultural experiences.
